Iceberg Songs

The poles are melting faster than ever before. But melting icebergs are simply too far away from society to relate to this global issue emotionally. We turn the sound of melting icebergs into music and spread it out to make people all over the world listen to this global issue and politicians to take action. Arctic scientists recorded the natural sounds icebergs produce while melting. In collaboration with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), international musicians and artists turned these sounds into music: The Iceberg Songs. With the start of the World Climate Conference, we even provided the iceberg sounds for anybody to download, compose and remix on icebergsongs.com. International users contributed with their own Iceberg Songs on SoundCloud by using the hashtag #icebergsongs. The project generated a reach of over 370 million without any media budget at all. Users dived into the mesmerizing songs and visuals for over 600 hours, proving that the world finally heard the melting icebergs and politicians were exhorted to react.
